7 ways to stay cool in your home

| 20.07.21

wooden two storey house on sunny day

Winter may well be coming, but summer is here! As the mercury rises we look at some simple ways you can stay cool and comfortable at home this summer.

1. Get the air flowing

On a warm and stuffy day, a breeze can be a lifeline. Luckily it’s one of the simplest things to create – simply open some windows or doors! Whether you have casements, tilt and turn or sash windows, French doors or wide-opening bifolds – even cracking these open a tiny bit can make a difference. If you’re worried about security at night, window locks can keep windows secure while allowing you to benefit from a cooling breeze.

For added effectiveness, strategically open windows or doors on opposite sides of your home. This should set up a corridor of airflow, getting the air moving and provide some cooling relief. It will also provide a healthy dose of ventilation for your home, helping to vent airborne pollutants and moisture, and bringing in clean, fresh air.

2. Throw some shade

Retreating to the shade is a perfect way to stay cool in your home. Using conservatory, door and window blinds and shutters during the warmer months can help keep your living spaces comfortable.

While the evenings may be nice and cool, if your home has spent the day warming up in the sun it can be tough coming home to a virtual greenhouse each night.

During the warmest hours, you can achieve more effective temperature control with blinds and shutters so come the end of the day, you can relax and enjoy the long summer evenings in comfort.

3. Can’t stand the heat? Cook something different…

When the temperature soars outside, anything you can do to keep it cool inside helps. The kitchen is a good place to start, and the oven and stovetop in particular are common culprits. Nothing beats the warmth and aromas emanating from an oven on a winter’s day… in summer however, this can make the kitchen and adjacent living spaces uncomfortably warm.

Where possible, look to limit how much you use heat producing appliances like the oven on warmer days. If you have a barbecue outside this is the perfect time to make the most of it – open up those patio doors and fire it up in the fresh air – or prepare cooler meals and ones that require less prolonged warming.

4. Open those trickle vents

Opening windows and doors is a good way to actively and rapidly ventilate your home. However don’t forget the benefits of passive ventilation – like that provided by trickle ventilators.

This kind of background ventilation can provide a home with a secure and constant source of ventilation even when windows are locked in a closed position.

5. Install energy efficient light bulbs

Light bulbs give off heat as well as light, so switching to ones that radiate less of the former can make a difference. Energy efficient bulbs such as fluorescent and LED light bulbs generate significantly less heat than incandescent bulbs. If your house has more than a few of the latter, changing to eco-friendly bulbs could be a good idea.

Doing so could even save you money in the long term. According to Energy Saving Trust, by replacing all bulbs in your home with LED alternatives you could save around £35 a year on electricity bills.

6. Retrofit window film

Rooms with a high proportion of glazing – such as conservatories and orangeries – can be susceptible to overheating in summer. If this is a problem for you, you may want to consider window film as a potential solution.

Specialised solar control window film can help to dramatically decrease heat transfer across windows, keeping rooms cooler and reducing glare from the sun. This can increase comfort and can also be beneficial for furniture positioned next to windows or doors, which is often at risk of fading over time from exposure to UV radiation.

7. Is it time to upgrade your windows?

If your home is overheating this summer, one of the reasons could be that your windows aren’t providing enough thermal insulation.

Normally when we think about energy efficient glazing such as double or triple glazed windows, we think about its ability to keep warmth inside a home and the cold out. Yet the same insulating properties that make this possible also help to reduce the impact of hot outside temperatures by keeping warm air out and the air inside a home cool.

Upgrading the windows in your home can lead to better thermal insulation, as well as reduced noise pollution and a more comfortable living environment. It can also help to lower your overall energy usage and fuel bills.

Talk to a local GGF Member company about how upgrading your windows could help improve the comfort of your home.

Improving your home’s kerb appeal

| 27.05.21

The pandemic has not only seen a spike in home improvements, but also in people looking to buy new properties, which is inevitable as the time spent at home has significantly increased. This combined with the Stamp Duty holiday being extended until the end of June, has resulted in many looking to increase the value of their home with the intention of selling.

For this very reason, we commissioned some research to shine a light on the improvements homeowners are looking to make, along with the key factors influencing consumers when it comes to considering buying or even viewing a prospective new home.

Our survey of 1,000 UK consumers revealed the vast majority of homeowners and renters admit a property’s kerb appeal is an essential buying factor, with 65% confirming an attractive exterior is important when considering to view/buy a house.

Chipped paint, single-glazed windows or damaged windows/doors are also off-putting to buyers with 44% saying an unattractive exterior would still put them off, even if the interior was appealing.

The research also uncovered 63% are deterred by damaged exterior windowsills or frames, 72% would avoid booking a viewing for a house on a busy road, and more than one-third admit liking the colour and style of the front door is essential when buying or viewing.

Wellbeing was another key factor with over three-quarters (79%) of residents admitting that natural light is important when looking for a new home as it helps with their overall happiness. While eco-friendly features are also priority, with 40% saying they wouldn’t view or buy a house that didn’t have double or triple glazing, energy-efficient doors, insulation or low carbon heat.

While it’s reassuring to see the home improvement sector and property market surge, it’s crucial to still follow the appropriate health and safety practices. To help, we have created a safe guide for homeowners to ensure those looking to buy and upgrade or simply renovate their existing home stay safe during the entire process.

On other influential factors when booking a viewing/buying a new home, the survey found that:

  • Three-quarters said that outdoor space was imperative for booking a viewing/buying
  • Having the ability to maximise the use of space and the opportunity to create a multi-functional space is a key factor for 61% of those surveyed
  • More than half of people surveyed said that single-glazed windows would put them off from viewing/buying a home

On general consumer thoughts on home improvements, the research revealed:

  • With many spending more time at home due to lockdown, two-in-three people surveyed said having a comfortable home space is more important now than it was before the pandemic
  • 63% are making a conscious effort to make their home energy efficient when renovating
  • Having better ventilation in the home is imperative for 45%

On renovations in the current climate, the research uncovered:

  • 71% confirmed it’s important they like and enjoy all of their home’s features now they’re spending more time at home
  • 61% agreed that they would rather use a local builder recommended by a friend or neighbour
  • 31% admit they are investing in their home this year, rather than going on holiday

We have lots of top tips and creative ideas for those looking to upgrade or extend their home. Whether it’s for personal comfort and wellbeing, to make an essential work space or to make the property more appealing to potential buyers, we have a wealth of expert advice.

GGF reacts to Spending Review

Uncategorized | 27.11.20

On 25 November, Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced a one year Spending Review, covering the financial year from April 2021 to March 2022.

On seeing the Review in more detail, John Agnew, GGF Managing Director commented, “We appreciate the Government has been under incredible fiscal pressure in trying to deal with the pandemic, and we welcome the national infrastructure strategy and housebuilding investment, however it was very disappointing to see no significant investment or plans for the home improvement sector.”

In the Review, the Chancellor, set resource and capital budgets for the fiscal calendar for 2021-22. For the second successive year there was no announcement of a full three-year spending review, this delay is due to the fiscal uncertainty caused by the coronavirus but this lack of long term commitment is likely to cause uncertainty for many businesses who are planning beyond March 2022.

This year, the GGF made submissions to HM Treasury as part of the Comprehensive Spending Review consultation process, outlining the case for new and more increased government initiatives to assist and incentivise the glazing sector in its support for the drive to Net Zero. The GGF continues to make this case via the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and environmentally focused Parliamentary bodies.

This Spending Review was accompanied by a relatively bleak economic projection by the Office for Budgetary responsibility. The focus of the Chancellor’s speech was protecting jobs, capital projects for hospitals and schools and, unsurprisingly, tackling the coronavirus pandemic.

John Agnew added, “The glass and glazing industry has been devastated in 2020 and to their credit many companies in our industry have shown great resilience, innovation and spirit to try and come through these extremely difficult times. Given the Government’s green agenda and zero carbon 2050 targets, the Spending Review was an ideal opportunity to issue a statement of intent, by offering incentives to consumers and companies, to improve the energy efficiency in the UK’s existing housing stock. As it stands, outside of a few relatively small and unambitious energy efficient schemes, that will have little impact our sector, there is nothing in the Spending Review to support the glazing home improvement sector.”

On new build, Chancellor Sunak did announce some positive news “To build housing, we’re introducing a £7.1 billion National Home Building Fund. On top of our £12.2 billion Affordable Homes Programme. As we invest billions in the building of new homes, we’re also simplifying our planning system to ensure homes are built where they are needed most.”

In addition to the spending commitment to new build and infrastructure the Government has also added addition funding to skills and apprenticeships. The Green Home Grant Scheme has been extended by 12 months and will receive an extra £1b but this will only improve 600k existing homes and only allows for single glazing upgrades to double or triple glazing.

Mark Austin – The President’s Perspective

Events, Glassi, Membership News, News | 07.09.20

In this exclusive GLASSi interview, GGF President Mark Austin shares his views on the state of the industry, the GGF and has a message for GGF Members on how to cope and prepare for better times ahead.

It is over 8 months since your Presidency began and it’s fair to say no one could have predicted how 2020 would have unfurled. What have been the major challenges for you?

There is no way to sugar coat what the entire industry is currently still in the mist of going through, including on-going supply chain problems, logistical issues, adapting to the necessary social distancing and costs of Covid-19 precautionary measures, which has had its own challenges in terms of getting hold of adequate and sufficient PPE, hand sanitiser and screens etc., and the GGF has provide good guidance to help the industry follow the restrictions and operate safely.

One major challenge was the extremely difficult decision during lockdown was to have to take the legal advice from the GGF’s auditors and solicitors to close the GGF Fund Ltd to any new business from 1st April 2020 at very short notice. It was the last thing GGF Members needed to hear during lockdown with the uncertainty that was swirling around at that time and we were all wondering how long this was going to last and how on earth each business was going to survive.

Whilst very unfortunate, the strong advice given proved to be very sound, when only 2 days later the underwriting insurers also withdrew from writing new deposit indemnity insurance business. It was always the intention of the GGF to find an insurance based product to replace the Deposit Indemnity Fund and it is hoped we can announce more details on a new product soon.

Adapting to the new normal of all GGF meetings being virtual ones, and all GGF staff working from home has not been without its challenges as all mail had to be redirected and dealt with to ensure both GGF Members and Consumers continue to receive the best possible customer service possible in such circumstances.

As GGF President it was a major blow when we also had to cope with the fallout from the loss of Everest Ltd (one of the GGF’s founder members), when the company went into pre-pack administration.

I dare not think the state the industry would be in today without the Government’s furlough scheme, but thankfully the Government realised they had to do something substantial, which thankfully they did.

Another major challenge our industry faced in the last few months was the Government’s Green Homes Grant Scheme. When it was announced in early July that the Scheme would be launched sometime in September, it was a real set back to the glazing industry as the lack of detail until mid-August (which at the time of writing has still not all been finalised i.e. which composite doors will be included or excluded).

For the first week my phone was running off the hook as I was contacted by GGF Members and non-Members from across the industry wanting clarity. The GGF and FENSA did all they could in the circumstance, by reporting accurate factual timely information for members and in pushing Government for more details.

Normally, the industry would welcome any scheme that incentivises consumers to spend on energy efficient home improvement but Government had not consulted with industry beforehand and left so many unanswered questions with the early announcement.

When more details were released (over 5 weeks later), it was revealed that the scheme was limited to the replacement of single glazing (with double, triple or secondary glazing) only, along with potential some composite doors being restricted to being “secondary measures”, which only can be accessed once one or more “primary measures” have been installed.

With a further restriction was detailed that the spend on the secondary measure is limited to either equal or less than that of the primary measure, it was clear that the Green Homes Grant Scheme is a major disappointment and a significant set-back for our industry. It has also left the industry with the task of educating consumers on the scheme’s complicated details from which the vast majority of equally disappointed as they are unlikely qualify for the scheme.

How do you feel the Federation has coped since the COVID-19 outbreak?

I was very proud of the way the GGF Management and staff have rallied round throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, taking steps before the actual lockdown to pre-empt one should it come, to ensure that GGF Members and FENSA Registered Installers were still able to make contact and receive help and support. Many of the Managers and staff worked long extra hours and weekends for no extra pay, something for which I wish to formally thank them on behalf of all members and clients connected to the GGF and its group of commercial subsidiary companies including FENSA, BFRC, InstallSure RISA and Borough IT.

What are the big challenges facing the GGF over the next 6-12 months?

Not being able to use the GGF Offices at 40 Rushworth Street in London since mid-March has been a real challenge, and I am delighted a safe phased return to the building is starting in September. For the re-opening, we had to carry out the necessary risk assessments and ensure new precautions and policies were put in place, so anyone entering the building would be as safe as is possible. Like most businesses, the GGF has had to permanently change the way it operates to ensure it adapts to the new normal in order that its capacity to serve its members is not reduced. As a consequence, it was had to invest in many new extra laptops and mobile phones to ensure that its staff can work as effectively from home as if they were in the GGF Offices, as not all the staff will be returning initially due to general safety, social distancing and to ensure all Government guidelines are followed.

With the GGF focus over the next 6-12 months being helping and supporting all GGF Members during what is clearly going to be a slow, painful and cautious recovery, the GGF will continue to invest in its Members’ services. With plans in place and in action, when we do reach the end of the tunnel, the whole industry should be in a genuinely strong position to then kick-on once there is an up-turn.

Members’ Week is your first annual conference as GGF President, how do you feel about it being entirely virtual?

Personally I’d much rather GGF Members Day was able to happen and we were all able to gather together in person and network as we have done so effectively in the past. As this is clearly not remotely possible, holding my first annual conference as GGF President virtually is to be embraced, as the new way of working, doing business, supporting members and interacting has also brought about many ways to improve the ways we communicate and deal with suppliers and consumers alike. We all know we won’t ever be going back to how things were in the past, as GGF Members have found they can save so much time, money and resources by not travelling, which in terms of reducing our carbon footprint is to be welcomed.

Members’ Week is a unique and ambitious project for the GGF, what do you think Members should expect?

My hope is that GGF Members will engage with the GGF throughout Members week and by the end of it feel they have really benefitted from contributing and from seeing and hearing the many different contributors. The fact the GGF is offering a “Menu” of events and information targeted at its Members, it gives each and every GGF Member the opportunity to dip in and out online as it suits them so that they can feel the time they do spend virtually interacting with the GGF Group and its Members proves genuinely fruitful.

What message would you give to the GGF Members for the future?

There is no point trying to put an overly positive spin on the short term future, as nobody knows how long the pandemic will be around for and the extent to which it will affect business, consumer confidence and the confidence of all GGF Members staff to return to working in the office – particularly those who have offices in large cities with insufficient office space to enable all staff to socially distance.

My personal view is that 2021 in financial terms could turn out to be even more challenging than 2020, so it is very fortunate the GGF Group has a strong financial foundation and sufficient reserves to weather the many storms that I still think sadly are ahead. My suggestion is that, as they have always done, GGF Members support one another, rally round and stay in the boat, as we’ve proven together we are stronger and by doing so, better equipped to cope with the rough seas ahead with all hands on deck.

Mark will open proceedings at Members’ Week on 29th September at 10.30am.

GGF cautiously welcomes Green Homes Grant Scheme

News, Politics | 07.07.20

Following recent meetings with Government, the GGF heard late last week from Government officials that there would be a major announcement regarding energy efficiency in the UK.

The Government is now set to announce on 8th July 2020,  a new “Green Homes Grant Scheme” that will allow millions of homeowners to apply for vouchers worth up to £5,000 to insulate their homes and also create 100,000 green jobs through approved suppliers.

Alok Sharma, Secretary of State, Business Energy and Industrial Strategy – © gov.uk

The GGF was concerned that glazing home improvements might not be included however it has been confirmed by Alok Sharma, Secretary of State for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) that energy efficient windows and doors, double and triple glazing will be included in the new scheme.

The Green Homes Grant Scheme is set to go live in September and is part of the Government’s wider £3bn investment in green technology to drive the UK towards its zero carbon 2050 targets.

On hearing news of the new scheme, John Agnew, GGF Managing Director commented, “Naturally the GGF welcomes any positive Government initiative that will boost our industry, the economy and help the environment. We will though have to wait and see the full detail of the scheme and then communicate the benefits to our Members and homeowners.”

Chancellor Rishi Sunak

There will be more details of the scheme revealed by Chancellor Sunak in his Summer Statement on Wednesday 8th July and following the announcement the GGF will be communicating more information and comment on the new scheme to its Members and the wider industry.

Future Homes consultation – Have your say!

News, Politics | 06.12.19

Most people should be aware of the worldwide focus on reducing the emission of greenhouse gases, a key contributory factor to global warming.

In the run-up to the General Election, every major political party is making claims in relation to this issue; citing a particular year when the United Kingdom will become ‘carbon neutral’. A major source of such gases are those energies expended in the heating and cooling of buildings.

The ‘Future Homes Standard’ consultation is concerned with amendments to building regulations and therefore Approved Documents L (Conservation of Fuel and Power) and F (Ventilation).

It consists of recommendations for short-term amendments which will be applied in 2020, using these as a stepping stone to the Future Homes Standard to be introduced in 2025.

This current consultation relates to new build dwellings; however further consultations are expected, covering existing dwellings, and non-domestic dwellings both new and existing.

The implications of the Future Homes Proposal

Whilst the full implications of the recommendations are not yet known – and the political goalposts tend to be changeable – considering the strength behind the environmental movement, it is probable that the ‘endgame’ of the Future Homes Standard in 2025 will require window performances with insulation which is too onerous for conventional double-glazed units to achieve.

The positive news is that the amendments which are proposed for 2020 mean that double-glazing is still likely to achieve compliance  – although this could be dependent on the whole window performance. It would however, be unwise to ignore the future, potentially there could be a major change in unit production for our industry. To quote directly from the consultation documentation….

“A new home built to the Future Homes Standard might have a heat pump, triple glazing and standards for walls, floors and roofs that significantly limit any heat loss. We need to help the industry reach a position where it can deliver in 2025. We propose introducing in 2020 a meaningful but achievable uplift to energy efficiency standards as a stepping stone to the Future Homes Standard.”

Adrian Blaydon, GGF Technical Officer is co-ordinating the GGF’s response to the Future Homes Consultation on the job in hand Adrian commented;

“It is an interesting and privileged position being at the eye of this particular hurricane. As a human being, I am hugely in support of taking necessary and even painful steps to ensure that the legacy of our generation is a recovery of our planet. However, as a Technical Officer of the Federation, I and my colleagues must ensure that we use our technical expertise and industry knowledge to temper these laudable ideas into a proposal that our industry can cope with; and it is then our aim to prepare our membership for what is coming in the years ahead. I’d urge all GGF Members to read and contribute their input to this consultation. The more thoughts on this the better.”

The GGF response to this consultation will include any valid comments from Members. You have an opportunity to make your voice heard. Members can respond directly to the government; however, in our submission we aim to reflect the opinions of those companies and sectors the GGF represents.

We will then try and reflect all expressed opinions received within the GGF reply. If there is any conflict of opinion, we have no problem with stating both sides of the argument. However, if you don’t get involved, your opinion won’t be heard.

The deadline for the consultation sits at 10th January 2020; and a copy of which will then be made available to our membership.

We recommend you send any responses by 6th January. Please send your comments to Adrian Blaydon at technical@ggf.org.uk

The consultation documentation can be downloaded HERE

GUARDIAN’S NEW SINGLE PRODUCT SOLUTION FOR 1.0 U VALUE PERFORMANCE – CLIMAGUARD A 1.0

News | 24.05.18

Guardian ClimaGuard A 1.0 is the newest addition to Guardian’s Low E range and achieves 1.0 U value performance in a double glazed unit on surface 3. ClimaGuard A 1.0 is also a single stock product which can be used both annealed and toughened.

Guardian’s ClimaGuard range is set to take a firm footing in the commercial market, with the launch of ClimaGuard A 1.0. As a single stock Low E glass, ClimaGuard A 1.0 can be used either annealed or toughened and provides the optimum in thermal insulation, achieving a 1.0 U value in a standard 4/16/4 (90% Argon) IGU or U values as low as 0.4 W/m2K in triple glazed units.

ClimaGuard A 1.0 is integral to the success of the Guardian ClimaGuard Low E glass range. The New ClimaGuard A 1.0 provides some of the best thermal insulation on the market, combined with a high light transmission of 72% and a solar factor of 54%, making this ideal not only for commercial projects, but also for utilising solar heat gain in sustainable projects like those using the Passivhaus (Passive House) standard.

The solar factor of 54% offers mid-level heat gains, which are ideal for carefully considered designs, where solar heat energy from the sun can be used to warm a building without risking overheating. This also makes ClimaGuard A 1.0 ideal for triple glazing, where it easily helps to achieve the Passivhaus window requirement of 0.8 Uw and provides a manageable level of solar heat gain. However, in exposed areas such as southern elevations or large areas of glazing, we would still recommend Guardian SunGuard where the right solar control and thermal insulation combination can be selected to meet the specific requirements of each individual project.

The New ClimaGuard A 1.0 has been developed by utilising the ClimaGuard A+ coating layer stack, which is well known for its stability and durability during processing and toughening. Mark Bristow – Guardian Regional Manager for the UK & Ireland explained; “The technology used to create ClimaGuard A+ on our magnetron sputter coater at Goole is leading to a host of new product development’s, with ClimaGuard A 1.0 being the first to reach the market. Having our own UK based coating facility has vastly improved our ability to produce products specifically tailored to suit the UK market, driving both innovation and energy saving”.

GGF CAUTIOUSLY OPTIMISTIC ABOUT 2017 BUDGET

News | 21.05.18

The GGF was cautiously optimistic in response to housebuilding announcements made at the 2017 Budget

Despite the Government’s focus on housebuilding, the GGF believes more action is needed to ensure the UK meets the target of building 300,000 homes per year. The GGF was also disappointed the Budget contained no measures to increase the energy efficiency of the UK’s homes, some of the worst performing in Europe.

Housebuilding programmes

Governments of all colours have proposed speeding up the planning process and unlocking public sector land, but the UK’s housebuilding rate has remained well below target over the last decade. Therefore, the GGF does not expect to see a sudden surge in housebuilding, particularly at a time when confidence in the construction sector in the year ahead dropped to its lowest level since December 2012*.

Of note to GGF Members, the Chancellor announced:

  • £44bn over five years in capital funding to support housing market and deliver 300,000 homes per year by mid 2020s, including:
    • £630m small sites fund to support the delivery of 40,000 homes
    • £2.7bn to double Housing Infrastructure Fund
    • £1.1bn for unlocking strategic sites
    • £400m more for estate regeneration and £8bn of new financial guarantees to support private housebuilding

The lack of a ‘Whole House Approach’

All housebuilding programmes should be centred on a ‘Whole House Approach’ to ensure new and existing homes are energy efficient and can keep people warm during winter. The GGF was disappointed the Government failed to include measures to ensure housing stock is energy efficient. In order to keep carbon emissions lower, tackle fuel poverty and help reduce energy bills*, the GGF will urge the Government to provide investment in energy efficient glass and glazing products for families and businesses across the country.

GGF Group Chief Executive, Phil Pluck commented:

“While we welcome the Government’s drive to build 300,000 homes per year, there is some way to go before we realise this objective. Our Members are integral to the construction industry, and we will continue to work with Government so they fully appreciate the existing barriers to building more homes.”

“Further, we are disappointed the Government did not provide additional funding for energy efficient measures in the UK’s domestic and non-domestic housing stock. It is vital the poor performance of the UK housing stock is urgently improved. The Chancellor announced crackdowns on diesel vehicles, but must also recognise the contribution that energy efficient buildings can make to reducing carbon emissions”.

GGF Increases UK Presence for FENSTERBAU FRONTALE 2018

News | 22.11.17

The UK Pavilion at FENSTERBAU FRONTALE 2018, hosted by the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) will be bigger and better as some of the UK glazing industry’s highest profile organisations have signed up to co-exhibit at the world’s largest international trade fair for the window industry.

In 2016, the GGF set up and organised the UK Pavilion within the FENSTERBAU FRONTALE exhibition. For 2018, the GGF has more than doubled the size of the Pavilion with 200m2 reserved to provide a designated area for 12 British companies to co-exhibit and reach a huge international market in excess of 100,000 trade visitors.

FENSTERBAU FRONTALE 2018 takes place in Nuremberg on 21-24 March and reflects the worldwide innovations in windows, doors and facades. Architects, carpenters, window and facade manufacturers, and the specialist trade will update on the latest profile systems, glass in architecture, fixing equipment, hardware, safety equipment, machines, installations and many more products.

All six organisations who co-exhibited in 2016 have once again signed up once to be part of the UK Pavilion.

As well as hosts, the GGF, the co-exhibitors who have re-booked include:

  • Clearview – the UK leading trade magazine for the glazing sector
  • Glazpart – the leader in plastic glazing accessories and ventilation
  • GQA Qualifications – the Glazing Industry’s Specialist Awarding Body
  • RITEC International – developer and manufacturer of the only complete system for glass renovation, ‘non-stick’ protection and maintenance
  • The FIT Show – the UK’s award-winning glass and glazing industry trade show

James Lee, GGF Director of Group Marketing commented on the increased size of the UK Pavilion:

“Following the success at the UK Pavilion at Fensterbau in 2016 and the interest we received after the event, we were keen to return in 2018, bigger and better than before. We will now be going from six co-exhibitors to twelve covering a broader spectrum of the industry. As a result, we have more than doubled the stand space and this will considerably increase the UK’s presence.”

Paul Godwin, Managing Director of The FIT Show added:

“We are pleased to be part of the UK Pavilion once again because we acknowledge the strength of the event as an international showcase. Fensterbau is a powerful international event but for any company specifically targeting the highly buoyant UK window, door market The FIT Show will reach many thousands more visitors. The FIT Show therefore provides an excellent gateway into the UK market.”

Mick Clayton, GQA Chief Executive commented:

“We very much look forward to once again co-exhibiting with like-minded companies at Fensterbau on the UK Pavilion. It promises to be an exciting show where we can discuss GQA’s approach to skills development and recognition with international companies.”

Steve Sidebottom, Managing Director of Clearview magazine added:

“The UK Pavilion worked well for us in 2016 so we had no hesitation in booking our place for 2018. The Clearview Group has already built strong business relationships with European companies who are aiming to market their business and products in the UK. The UK Pavilion at Fensterbau provides a great platform for reaching more international customers.”

Derek Brown, International Sales and Market Development Manager, Ritec International Ltd commented:

“The British Pavilion at Fensterbau 2016 was a big success for RITEC and we generated a variety of quality leads from all over the world. Therefore we had no hesitation in signing up for 2018 because the show allows us to access prospective customers that would be difficult to reach through other marketing channels.”

On the UK Pavilion, participating companies will hold sales promotions, product demonstrations, video screenings and presentations as well as taking advantage of multiple networking opportunities. The GGF also has plans for a special party held on the Pavilion during the show in the form of a British Reception.

The GGF is pleased with the progress in the planning for next year’s FENSTERBAU FRONTALE and will soon be revealing the names of the new companies who have signed up to join the UK Pavilion as co-exhibitors. James Lee explained:

“We’re delighted that the five co-exhibitors from 2016 have signed up for next year and our plans are well underway. A further five companies are also in the pipeline to be part of the UK Pavilion and we’ll be releasing more details soon.”

If you are interested in co-exhibiting or visiting the UK Pavilion at Fensterbau Frontale in 2018, then please contact the GGF at marketing@ggf.org.uk.
