GGF outlines plans for FIREX International 2018

GGF outlines plans for FIREX International 2018

The GGF Fire Resistant Glazing Group will be raising the profile of fire resistant glazing at the FIREX International expo in London this June

Ever since the tragic fire at Grenfell Tower last year, fire safety has not just been at the forefront of many minds but has become a priority on the national agenda for government. Naturally a lot of the focus has fallen on the construction industry. The GGF Fire Resistant Glazing Group (FRGG) remains committed to providing the best industry guidance to protect people from fire and the effects of fire.

Specifically this relates to the safety of building occupants, while allowing unhindered access for rescue crews. Fire-resistant glazing physically separates people and valuable objects from flames, smoke, heat and other products of combustion, which is critical for safe egress.

FIREX International, taking place at ExCel London from 19-21 June, is the annual expo connecting the global fire and security markets, giving fire and security professionals access to the very latest technology from suppliers across the world, cutting-edge solutions and the essential knowledge to ensure life safety

This year once more the GGF is to exhibit at the fire protection and prevention event where we’ll be highlighting the importance of fire resistant glazing and why building contractors, designers, architects and specifiers should ensure they use trusted, qualified companies such as GGF Members to carry out the supply and installation of fire resistant glazing.

The GGF technical team will be on hand to answer technical questions regarding the performance of fire resistant glazing systems.

Adrian Blaydon, GGF Technical Officer and Secretary of the FRGG commented: “Over the last twelve months, the subject of fire-resistance within construction has been very much in the spotlight. The Guide to Best Practice in the Specification and Use of Fire-Resistant Glazed Systems offers assistance as to how glass can play its part in a building’s fire strategy, and we are pleased that the updated guide will be published in June with the launch planned for FIREX.”

The GGF will also deliver a presentation at the event titled “Fire-rated Glazing – Getting It Right, Getting it Wrong”. This will examine the important role glass plays in the fire strategy of a building.

If you’re one of the lucky first 20 visitors to the GGF stand at FIREX (we’ll be on stand A475), you’ll be rewarded with a free hard copy of the newly launched Fire Resistant Glazing Guide (RRP £150).
