GGF Aluminium Group – A Resounding Success and an Early Win!

GGF Aluminium Group – A Resounding Success and an Early Win!

After some delay due to the pandemic, the GGF Aluminium Group finally held its inaugural meeting on the 21st April at Solihull Moors FC.

From the welcoming breakfast baps right through to the post-meeting buffet, all attendees declared it a success. Chairperson, Jon Palethorpe of A Plus Aluminium, got things off to a great start firstly welcoming Russell Yates of Alufold Direct onto the team as Vice Chair and then proceeding to go through the orders of business.

GGF Technical Officer Kevin Jones was pleased to inform the Group that following discussion with the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC), the hoped for amendment to Approved Document L, i.e. the addition of calculations from BS EN 14351 for non-standard doors, had been accepted as an omission by DLUHC and the document would be amended accordingly in the coming weeks. An early win for the Aluminium Group!

A video report from GGF Head of Government Advocacy & Stakeholder Relations, Chris Beedel, gave attendees an update on all ongoing discussions with Government, LABC and future projects. This was followed by a video report from GGF Head of Sales & Marketing Tom Butler, who reported on current and future promotional plans for the Group and the GGF in general, including our presence at the FIT Show in early May.

From early in the meeting, the contribution from attendees was positive and healthy with future plans for the Group actively discussed including participation in other GGF Committees and Groups. To that end Dale Peglar was appointed as the Group’s representative on the Standards Committee and volunteers were requested for the Home Improvement Technical Group.

Following the meeting Jon Palethorpe said “I’m delighted that we have had such a positive start to the GGF Aluminium Group, the attendance and feedback from the inaugural meeting has been excellent and I very much look forward to helping build a strong vibrant Group that represents the interests and promotes the use of aluminium for members who design, produce and manufacture & install aluminium systems. The amendment to AD L is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when GGF & members work together.”
