Tribute to Barry Chilvers (1950-2020)

The GGF was saddened to hear of the recent passing of Barry Chilvers former Director of Customer Services at Anglian Home Improvements.

Barry will be remembered by many GGF Members for his long term commitment to the GGF Consumer Management Group where as Chairman for almost 10 years he oversaw many changes in the GGF’s consumer facing services.

On hearing of his passing, Peter Stuttard Head of Membership said, “Barry was a great supporter of the GGF. It was very sad to hear this news. My thoughts go to his family at this time.”

As Chair of the Consumer Management Group, Barry oversaw the GGF revision of the Consumer Code to ensure it was aligned to the Consumer Rights Act (2015) and also supported the Federation on its consumer facing benefits such as the GGF Conciliation Scheme and the award winning consumer website, MyGlazing.com. In addition to his work on the Consumer Management Group, Barry also contributed his knowledge of customer service as a Member of the GGF Home Improvement Executive for over ten years. 

With over 40 years in the industry (mostly with Anglian), Barry was also a great advocate of training and was a former director of Proskills in the 1990s. In addition he also served on the Board of the National Home Improvement Council (NHIC) as the industry was facing tighter regulations with the introduction of Competent Person Schemes.

James Lee, GGF Director of External Affairs paid tribute, “I will not only remember Barry for his outstanding contribution to the GGF and the industry, but also that he was a nice guy who shared his time and expertise generously. My condolences and thoughts go to his family for their loss.”
