Following thousands of public votes and a fierce contest between some of the finest attractions in the country, we can now reveal the winner of the Window with a View photo competition!

Today, this floor to ceiling window in The People’s Republic Gallery at The Museum of Liverpool has been crowned the UK’s Best Window with a View for its stunning outlook over the bustling city of Liverpool.

The window, which looks out over the city’s Pier Head, Three Graces and River Mersey, was one of 12 attractions announced as regional winners in the competition at the start of August.

The impressive entry beat off stiff competition from the runners up, The Becket Chapel at Peterborough Cathedral, which came a close second, and Birmingham Library, which took the third spot, plus nine other shortlisted entries, to win the top prize. (Discover all the regional winners here.)

The Window with a View competition was created to celebrate the country’s stunning architecture and landscapes seen from any building open to the public, and has also helped shine a spotlight on the UK’s thriving tourism industry as hundreds of you took to social media, using the hashtag #WindowWithAView, to share your favourite shots.

The Museum of Liverpool will now set the standard for all future winners of the competition, with plans already in place to launch the second year of the competition in 2017.
