If you are experiencing problems with a window, door, conservatory glass or glass installation and think you need expert advice or an expert to visit your home, then contact the GGF Consultancy department as we can carry out an inspection.
The GGF is the leading industry authority and all our inspectors are recognised industry experts in their field.
Inspections are carried out to determine if the particular installation complies with the relevant British, European or International standard. Once completed, the official report will confirm to all parties the status of the product(s) that have been inspected.
When necessary the report(s) can form the basis of an expert witness statement should legal proceedings be required.
Installations will also be assessed to confirm compliance to the relevant Approved Documents (Building Regulations) and GGF Technical documents.
Areas covered by the GGF:
- Windows and doors
- Conservatory glass
- Material Quality
- Visual quality of glazing
- Insulating Glass Units with Seal Failure
- Spontaneous and other breakage types
- Inclusion Analysis
- Condensation and ventilation issues

- Safety, security and thermal (Glass type and function analysis)
What to expect from your site inspection
A nominated Technical Officer will undertake the necessary inspections and measurements using a range of specialist glazing equipment. Depending upon the quantity of Windows, Doors and Glass, most investigations can be carried out during normal working hours. All reports are issued within two weeks of the inspection date. Unless specific chemical analysis is required which requires the services of the laboratory which can take a number of weeks and incurs an additional charge.
How to prepare for an inspection
To ensure adequate space is available, you must provide appropriate access to the site so that the installation can be inspected safely. In cases of glass fracture the fragments should be retained and ideally remain within the glazing system where possible. It may be necessary to cordon off the immediate area for safety purposes.
The GGF provides all inspection equipment required including PPE. However, this does not include access equipment i.e. Ladders, Scaffolding etc. If the site is in a compromising level or height, you must inform us prior to your visit.
Should de-glazing be required a suitably qualified individual must be provided by the client.
What to expect from your report
All reports compiled by the Glass and Glazing Federation are completely independent, fully comprehensive and impartial. The GGF is a non-profit organisation set up by our members and industry experts with precision and transparency at its focus.
In your report you will find our initial observations, recommendations, and appropriate references as evidence of our findings and images.
If required the reports can be issued in accordance with the Civil Procedure Regulations (CPR) part 35 if requested.
How we deal with GGF Member installations?
