The Flat Glass Council is the Employers Organisation for those GGF Members involved in the manufacture and processing of flat glass and site glaziers.
It is the role of the FGC to manage the National Labour Agreement for the Flat Glass Industry, known as the Green Book and sit down each year with the signatory Trade Unions (GMB and Unite the Union) and agree to any changes to the pay and conditions within the Agreement.
The Industrial Relations Committee of the Flat Glass Council meets annually with the signatory Trade Unions at the Standing Committee for the National Joint Council for the Flat Glass Industry. These meetings usually take place in October to allow time for any wage negotiations to be completed before the end of the year. This will allow any new wage rates to be introduced from 1 January of the following year.
The Agendas and Minutes are confidential because of the wage negotiation elements and will not be on the website for general viewing.
The current Chairman of the FGC is John Devine of Independent Glass and the National Secretary is the Group Chief Executive, Nigel Rees.
The National Labour Agreement has not had a major overhaul for quite some time now and some of the contents are felt to be somewhat out of date and not matching current operations. An overhaul of the total Agreement will take place through 2015 between the Employers and the Unions. It is hoped to have the new Green Book available for an introduction on 1 January 2016.
