GGF TO HOLD GREEN DEAL DEBATE

The Glass and Glazing Federation has announced it will be holding a full blown Green Deal Debate on November 17th in the Midlands, to allow all members the opportunity to discuss the contentious areas of Green Deal.

Since the concept was first aired the Green Deal has been full of unanswered questions and contentious issues. Throughout the last 18 months, the GGF has been doing its best to inform and update members on all the Green Deal news as it happens.

In addition to the flow of Green Deal news and information, the GGF has held intensive talks with Government departments and the Green Deal has dominated GGF meetings at board, group and committee level where some members have aired their concerns regarding Green Deal.

Having listened intently to the members within its infrastructure, the GGF decided that a debate on Green Deal was essential.

Nigel Rees, GGF Chief Executive is urging members to attend;

“Having worked on Green Deal from the very outset, the GGF has put the Glass and Glazing industry firmly on the Government’s radar through our lobbying and numerous direct meetings with Government departments. Many questions and issues are still unanswered resulting in Green Deal speculation going into overdrive. I urge all GGF members to take this opportunity and attend the GGF Green Deal Debate.

At the GGF Green Deal Debate, amongst the topics on the agenda will be the burning issues and key questions such as;

Will Green Deal include businesses of all sizes and status?

The VAT disparity – will it be a barrier?

With Green Deal on the horizon is there a danger of a lull in the market?

How will the providers, assessors and the golden rule work in practice?

Will Green Deal work for the Glass and Glazing industry?

Can the GGF do more for its members in relation to Green Deal?

Greg Barker, Minister of State for Energy and Climate Change recently stated;

“Replacement windows are in a very exciting place. For the first time, because of technical innovation and the increased thermal value of new glazing, and because prices are coming down, we can anticipate that we will be able to include glazing and windows in Green Deal.”

Although the debates, decisions and documentation are currently at Government level the discussions within the industry could almost be measured on the Richter Scale. Green Deal has the potential to affect all businesses in the Home Improvement Sector either to their benefit or to their disadvantage.

Alan Burgess, Owner and MD of Masterframe Windows Ltd and Chairman of the GGF Home Improvement Executive highlighted the importance of having a debate on Green Deal when he said;This is the single largest change facing our industry since FENSA was introduced and has far wider consequences than Doc L changes. It could be a massive boost for the industry or a serious threat to every business. I urge all GGF members to grasp the main points of the consultation and attend the GGF Green Deal Debate.”

The GGF Green Deal Debate is a members only event and all members are invited to attend.  If you are a GGF member and would like to attend this key event then please contact Bridie Joyce to book your place on bjoyce@ggf.org.uk or telephone 020 7939 9109
